Video 44659/Br/1/I125: 'Special: Interview with Carrie Dallimore'. Carrie talks about her life in West Street in Bedminster with her six siblings and her father, a coal miner. Recorded and transmitted 05/03/75. Deep coal mining began in Bedminster in 1748, and by 1800 there were 18 collieries stretching from Ashton Vale to Bedminster. The largest of the Bedminster mines, Dean Lane, closed in 1906 resulting in the loss of over 400 jobs; South Liberty Lane pit in Ashton Vale was the last Bristol coal mine in the area to close, in 1925.
