Opening in 1978 as 'Trinity Community Centre', and briefly closing in 1984 to re-emerge as 'The Trinity Centre' in 1992, the building formerly known as 'The Holy Trinity Church' has enjoyed a varied history as one of Bristol's most exciting music venues whilst also serving as a much-loved community centre.

Trinity quickly established itself at the heart of dub reggae and punk music in Bristol, as well as a major force in the nascent "new wave" genre of British pop music. Acts as diverse as Jah Shaka, U2 and Joy Division played at Trinity during this time. This meeting of sounds and genre worlds was instrumental in the formation of the 'Bristol Sound', and the overall development of jungle and trip hop, which took the world by storm in the 1990s. Groups such as Massive Attack, Portishead and Roni Size all performed there.

The Trinity Centre continues to present big names from the UK and further afield, from the Gorillaz to Submotion Orchestra, Laura Marling to M83, thus maintaining its position at the cutting edge of new music. It also hosts regular events such as Teachings in Dub and Planet Shroom, genre-specific nights essential to the organisation of local music communities.
