St Barnabas C of E church was originally known as St Patrick's, but the name was changed by the vicar, 'who thought it was too Catholic-sounding'. St Barnabas was built in 1938 and replaced a temporary church first put up in 1933. The large red brick church proved too large for the parish and in 19080 the nave was demolished and replaced by housing. The crossing and transepts are used today as a church hall, and the chancel is now acts as the whole church.

Video 44659/Br/1/I123 shows a drama -- 'Behold the Man' -- being performed at St Barnabas in 1974.

44659/Br/1/I124 shows a couple identified as Keith and Carol getting married by the vicar, the Rev Hugh Farley; the marriage also appears in video 44659/Br/1/I67. Hugh Farley was vicar at St Barnabas until about 1990, and was known locally as 'Kojak' because he was bald.

Rev Hugh Farley appears again in several Knowle West TV videos discussing bird watching.
