Shirehampton Infants School and Junior Mixed School, Saint Mary's Walk, Shirehampton (January 1945-1947)

Bristol’s Deaf school returned from its wartime evacuation at Ledbury Park in January 1945. The school’s new was a part of the Shirehampton Infants School and Junior Mixed School, in Saint Mary's Walk. This part of Bristol’s Deaf history is unclear, and there are claims that other sites were used to house the school between leaving Ledbury and arriving at Shirehampton. What is known is that the school was shared between the local (hearing) schoolchildren, the Deaf school and the school for the partially blind. For the Deaf School, Miss Sharwood remained in charge as she had been at Ledbury. There is no information as to whether the new technologies of audiology and hearing aids were ever fitted to the school at Shirehampton.
