Joseph Abraham became Bristol’s first Jewish Mayor in 1865. His obituary describes him as ‘a able, pleasant, and genial’, and ‘greatly esteemed’ for his work on improving local health. He was a wine merchant, and this 1850 deed for Cooper's Hall on King Street reflects the successful expansion of his business. Cooper's Hall is now part of Bristol Old Vic.
