Handy and Franklin, of Handy's Circus, after raising one thousand guineas through subscription, built a riding school here, which opened in 1792. The attractions included pony races and mock fox hunts. After a couple of months, however, Handy and Franklin parted ways and the partnership ended with the two heading separate troupes. Benjamin Handy returned to the Limekiln Lane Amphitheatre in 1796 with his daughter, the rope-dancer ‘Child of Promise, and with some Catawba Indians, who displayed their native abilities, added to the bill.
