Videos 44659/Br/1/I125 and 44659/Br/1/I198 show Rev Hugh Farley of St Barnabas Church, Knowle West, talking about birds and birdwatching at Severn Beach. Until the 1920s, what is now known as Severn Beach was farmland, but as the railway and motorcar reached the banks of the river, Severn Beach was built and grew as a holiday resort for Bristolians. By the 1930s the resort included a swimming pool, and a boating lake was later added, both just inside the sea wall. Severn Beach remained a seaside resort into the 1960s, but since then the swimming pool, lake and all other features of its holidaying past have slowly disappeared.
