The Council House and College Green have been a meeting place for anti-apartheid supporters on a number of occasions, for instance; the 1989 AGM. Supporters also met on College Green to celebrate the release of Nelson Mandela on 11 February 1990, Votes for Freedom - when campaighners cast votes in solidarity with the people of South Africa who were voting for the first time in a democratic election. Anti-Apartheid members also met to take part in celebrating International Women's Day at College Green. Later as ACTSA people gathered to mark the death of Mandela with a candle lit vigil in December 2013.
