WHEN he tells people, many of them lifelong residents, that there used to be a place in Bristol called 'White City', Clive Burlton cheerfully admits he gets blank looks, and hints of disbelief.

"They might have heard of the White City in London – the area around Shepherd's Bush, but unless they have an allotment most people have no idea that Bristol had a White City all of its own. It's not until I show them some of the amazing photographs that the penny drops.
